Cruising with a full water tank, or an extra 1,700 pounds will result in wasted fuel, slower speeds, and shorter trips. A water maker allows you to cruise faster and farther and create fresh water on demand. On the below pictured trip the only time we had to leave anchorages like this was to get water. We had enough rum, fruit, fish, and surf to stay put until our plane was to take us back to Newport.
